Josh Chapp is a composer, producer, and audio engineer from Wolverine Lake, Michigan. Josh has a wide breadth of experience in the film and TV industry. He’s composed for over 30 short films, from sitcom to horror to sci-fi, and recently composed for the feature length vampire film “On Gallows Hill”. He’s also worked as an audio engineer, sound supervisor, and sound editor providing dialogue cleaning, foley, ADR, and mixing services to films and episodes of various lengths and genres. In 2023, he executive produced his own short film entitled “The Fisherman”, which received various festival selections and awards including 4 for “Best Original Score”. Josh’s experience across the industry has greatly influenced his approach to writing music. He maintains a constant focus on how his music works in tandem with the sound design of the film, never overpowering or underplaying the events on screen.

Josh’s music writing style is always influenced by his desire to include live instrumentation and real, original sounds. He has recorded a wide range of instrumentation, from more traditional instruments like woodwinds, strings, and cathedral organ, to instruments specific to various ethnicities such as dilruba and tabla, to more experimental catalysts like breaths and kitchen utensils. Josh’s consistent aim is to create a musical palette unmistakably unique to the project in hand. He is often known to ask musicians to search for unusual ways to generate sound on their instruments, broadening the available emotional range for the project and creating further distinction from those that may be similar.

Outside of his professional work, Josh remains an active saxophone player. Josh also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan. He is an avid Detroit sports fan and loves spending time outdoors.
